Part 1 of 6 in the Pneuma series.

How can one image the Holy Spirit? He descends like a dove, moves like a mighty wind and gentle breath, consumes and guides like fire, pours out and fills like water. Yet, He is none of these things. This series is an invitation into the mystery of the unknowable with hints of the familiar. I chose to create monotypes because of the lack of control I have over the image. I quickly paint on a piece of glass with ink, place dampened paper on top, send it through a press and wait to be surprised on the other side.

"Now the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a devouring fire on top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights." - Exodus 24:17-18
